National Stephen Lawrence Day

Today is National Stephen Lawrence Day. We celebrate the life and legacy of Stephen, the son of Baroness Doreen Lawrence, who was murdered in a racially motivated attack on 22 April 1993.

Stephen Lawrence Day was created by the Stephen Lawrence Foundation. It exists “to inspire a more equal, inclusive society, and to foster opportunities for marginalised young people in the UK”.

The Stephen Lawrence Day website states: “Stephen Lawrence Day is about the part we all play in creating a society in which everyone can flourish. It is an opportunity for children and young people to have their voices heard, make the changes they’d like to see and create a society that treats everyone with fairness and respect.”

The foundation puts a key emphasis on education, working to diversify the curriculum and providing resources for schools and pupils.
