Starts at Home: Ryan's story

Ryan banner Starts at Home

Starts at Home Day is a campaign celebrating supported housing and the positive impact it can have on thousands of lives.

Ryan, an Advance Supported Housing customer in Oxford, loves his home. Through his supported housing, Ryan has been able to gain more independence, connect with those around him and grow in confidence. He has been supported to manage his bills and maintain the flat at Hope House, an Advance scheme opened in Oxford in 2017. The purpose built development sits within a mixed development of general needs home owners.

With the independent living skills that Ryan has been developing, he is beginning to feel ready to move to a fully independent home with his girlfriend. You can read Ryan’s full story here

Supported housing is proven to be a successful and cost-effective way of supporting people with severe mental health needs, learning disabilities and many other needs to live full and meaningful lives in their communities.

Ian Gilders, Executive Director of Housing, emphasised the importance of funding supported housing in his recent blog post. You can read this here.
