Local MP visit
Advance residents in Melton Mowbray had the opportunity to speak to their local MP, Alicia Kearns, when she visited them in their homes last week.
Alicia spent time speaking with residents about their homes and support services which are both provided by Advance, as well as how they feel about living in Melton Mowbray and what they would like to see improved in the local community.
Ms Kearns said:
“It was great to have the opportunity to speak to Steven and fellow residents about their experiences of living in supported housing in Melton Mowbray. I’m so proud that we have such caring housing provision for those with learning disabilities and mental health conditions right here in the heart of our community."
“We have a significant and growing need to provide support for people with mental health conditions, and I want to see more approaches nationally like that of Advance Housing in Melton, where residents have the support and opportunity to enable them to maintain their freedom, passions and full participation in our community.”
Advance’s Executive Director of Housing, Ian Gilders, said:
“Our customers were delighted that Ms Kearns took the time to visit them and listen to their views. Too often, people with learning disabilities and mental health conditions are overlooked. We need more politicians to engage with them; to listen and develop their understanding of what they want and need to live full lives and feel they are valued members of society.”
