International Women's Day 2023
Today is International Women's Day. This is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.
Wendy Cox, Head of Property Services shares her thoughts:
"Celebrating International Women's Day is so important as inequality and sexism still exists whether obvious or systemic, yet women bring so much to the workplace and should be celebrated.
I believe we need inclusive and supportive work cultures where women’s careers thrive, and our achievements are celebrated. In my day-to-day work at Advance I am supporting this culture change by actively promoting with our contractors the need to increase the number of female skilled operatives they have.
The country faces a national skills shortage and surely actively promoting women to skilled roles is the perfect solution. In other organisations where I have worked with a direct labour force only 0 to 1% were females and I feel very strongly this needs to change."
