Obesity Awareness Week 2022
This week marks National Obesity Awareness Week.
Over 3 in 5 adults (63% of adult population1) are at an increased risk from serious diseases and becoming seriously ill with COVID-19 as a result of being overweight or living with obesity.
Advance is proud to support Obesity Awareness Week which aims to motivate and support adults to achieve a healthy weight, eat more healthily and increase levels of physical activity.
Small changes every day can go a long way to promote healthy living.
Tips to a healthier 2022 include:
- Checking the ‘traffic light’ labels and going for foods and drinks with more greens and ambers and less reds.
- When it comes to fruit and veg; the more the better! Get your 5 A Day. They’re low in calories.
- It is never too late to get active to improve your health, so start small and build up starting from 10 minutes of brisk walking a day.
- Take a look at the NHS' Better Health Campaign here
There are also a variety of free NHS apps which can help you to eat better and get active, including the NHS Weight Loss Plan app, NHS Couch to 5k app, NHS Drink free days app
Customer Thu Mi set a great example of creating healthier habits when she recently completed a 6 week course at ‘BASH’, a wellbeing group to help individuals with their diet and weight.
She followed all the guidelines and support given to her to manage her food intake and started an exercise programme. As a result Thu Mi lost 2kg and was proud to receive a certificate and an award at the end of the course. Her parents are really pleased for her and thanked all the staff for working with Thu Mi to achieve this goal.
Fantastic work Thu Mi!
