NAW2024: Max's apprenticeship journey
Throughout this week, we’ve been highlighting the apprenticeship opportunities that are available to Advance colleagues and bringing you stories from people who have been there and done it.
We’re ending the week with Max’s story.
Q. What Apprenticeship are you studying?
Max. I’m undertaking the L&D Business Partner/ Consultant – Level 5 apprenticeship.
Q. How does the apprenticeship fit around your personal life?
Max. I have had to put some time aside to study and complete assignments. But I was able to do the majority of my studying during working hours, in agreement with my manager. So the apprenticeship didn’t take up too much of my personal time; but I knew that in order to pass my qualification it would take a lot of hard work.
Q. What has been your biggest challenge in studying for your qualification?
Max. The assignments that are set. I find some more challenging than others. I have never been great with numbers so my assignments around budgeting were challenging.
Q. Who is your tutor? How do they support you?
Max. Doneis Ruddock (GLP Training). Doneis is always happy to answer my questions and to provide any other support that I need.
Q. What has surprised you the most?
Max. Despite not being academic during school, I was surprised at how much I am enjoying the apprenticeship and the work involved.
Q. What support has Advance and your manager given you during the course of your studies?
Max. My manager has given me the time I need to complete my assignments and is always encouraging me to do the best I can.
Q. What advice would you give someone thinking about starting an apprenticeship?
Max. Look into an apprenticeship now! You earn as you learn. An apprenticeship is a great way to develop your skills and you career.
