Response to Government funding

Ryan BrummittExecutive Director of Support, Ryan Brummitt, gives his thoughts on the announcement.

Advance welcomes the latest Government news to invest further in the DFG. Investment in home adaptations is a positive and necessary step in supporting people with long-term disabilities to live safely and independently in their own homes.

As a provider delivering both housing and support, we see first-hand how timely adaptations can make a real difference. When homes are designed around an individual’s needs, risks are reduced, independence is increased, and support can be delivered more effectively and safely. This not only improves quality of life for the individual but can also reduce pressure on health and care services over the longer term.

However, the impact of this funding will depend on how quickly and consistently it reaches people on the ground. Delays in assessment, approval, or delivery can mean individuals continue to live in unsuitable environments, increasing risk and limiting independence.

A joined-up approach between housing, health, and support services will be essential to ensure this funding translates into meaningful outcomes, particularly for people with complex needs who rely on the right combination of an appropriate home and the right support to thrive.
