Positive Behaviour Support and Complex Needs

Billy and Ade at home

We believe everyone should have access to support that is personal to them and helps them achieve their ambitions. Through our specialist support services for adults with complex needs or challenging behaviour Advance can offer housing and support services that improve outcomes for customers and their families.

Specialist Support for people with Complex Needs

Our Complex Needs team use person-centred approaches including Positive Behaviour Support when working with people with challenging behaviours. Being able to call on this expertise in-house means that we can deal with potential problems more quickly. This can often stop behaviours escalating, reduce challenging behaviour and increase stability.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

Positive Behaviour Support is a structured approach to supporting people when there are challenging behaviours. Challenging behaviours are assessed to find out what they mean for the person, and then support is given to develop alternative skills to meet this purpose. PBS methods gradually help people to begin to focus on more positive behaviours.

Person-centred active support

Our person-centred active support approach means that, with appropriate support, everyone can take part in everyday activities. It also enables people to build and develop fulfilling relationships with others. We believe everyone can take part in everyday activities to a varying extent even if they don’t have all the skills needed to finish an activity. Our staff assess the level of skill a task needs to identify what support is needed.
