Support Work

“I’ve tried other careers and I’ve always come back to support because I really do love it.  You just get something from support that I’ve found it hard to get in any other career.”

Lydia Peters, Support Manager

As a support worker with Advance, you’ll get to work with some incredible people and you’ll have the chance to make a real difference to their lives, every day.

With part time hours and flexible working, Support Work can fit around your life and other commitments.  Equally, it can be the start of your journey to a rewarding career in social care, and Advance will support you every step of the way.

What do Support Workers do?

If you like variety, value flexibility and are passionate about people, Support Work could be for you.

Support Work at Advance is really varied; you could be supporting someone with daily living tasks like shopping, cooking, cleaning and personal care.

You could just as easily find yourself supporting people to realise their ambitions to go to college, develop their art and design or musical skills, get a job or go out clubbing.

Some days will be filled with fun while others will be really challenging. As a Support Worker at Advance, you will be fully supported to get to know your customers and to understand their needs and aspirations and you’ll receive regular coaching and training to enable you to carry out your role confidently.

Lots of our Support Workers have gone on to be managers, and some have moved into other roles in our business – like IT.  Once you’re with us, there are genuine opportunities to learn, develop and build a career.

“Advance is great at providing training and supporting people to move forward in their careers.

“No two days are the same for me.  I love the mix of helping to bring in new business, managing and motivating a team of people and still doing hands on support work with our customers.”

To anyone considering Support Work, particularly young people who have not yet decided on their career path, I would say, ‘Just do it, you will not regret it.’ The personal satisfaction you get is second to none.  One of our customers we supported has now gone on to become a support worker himself; he and I passed our driving tests within months of each other.  To see him flourish in this way has been amazing.”

Sinti, Operations Manager
