Advance is a group of charitable organisations providing housing, support and employment services to meet the needs of people in the community who have either a learning disability or a mental health problem. Advance started in 1974 with its main offices located in Witney, West Oxfordshire, where we remain today.
We became known as Advance Housing and Support Ltd in 1993, adapting and modifying our services and organisational structure in response to changes in the external environment, and in accordance with the needs and wishes of people we house or support.
In its 30th anniversary year we changed again, with Advance Housing and Advance Support created as autonomous but inter-dependent business units.
In 2006, we incorporated Work in Progress (WIP), so that we could broaden our core area of operations to include employment services.
In April 2007, the Hackney Independent Living Team (Hilt - now Hilt Support Limited) became part of the Advance group. Hilt is a voluntary organisation which supports adults with learning difficulties to live as independently as possible through supported living, day services and residential homes.
Today Advance provides services to more than 3,500 people, including small-scale residential care homes, supported living services, shared ownership homes, community support services, day services and employment options; employs over 700 people and has a revenue turnover of more than £30 million per annum (2008/09).
