  • Advance began in 1974. It was initially known as Guideposts Housing Association, but changed its name in 1993
  • It is a charitable organisation
  • It provides housing, support and employment advice for adults with learning disabilities or mental health problems
  • It is a Registered Social Landlord (RSL), registered with the Tenant Services Agency and the Homes & Communities Agency
  • It is accredited with Supporting People and CQC (Care Quality Commission)
  • It is an approved provider for the Department for Work and Pensions
  • It has retained Investor in People status since 1995
  • It works in 32 counties in England
  • It is a founder member of the Association for Supported Living and the Mental Health Providers Forum
  • It employs about 625 staff
  • Its income in the last financial year was £35,018,000
  • Its expenditure was £34,257,000
  • It head office is in Witney. Its principal offices are in Leicester, Dartford, Redditch, Hackney, and Bodmin. It has further offices in Andover, Eastleigh, Gloucester and Leamington Spa.
  • Almost 24% of our staff consider themselves to be from a black or minority ethnic group - our target is for more than 15% and peer organisations report 11.7%
  • Almost 12% of our managers are from BME groups, compared with 7.3% in peer organisations
